Farm news week 7

This week CSA members will have choices from:  Lettuce, spinach, beans, cucumbers, zucchini, beets, carrots, parsley, dill, basil, garlic, onions, chard, kale, broccoli, celery and eggplant.

This week on the farm:

We all can’t believe how fast the summer is going, and are watching the tomatoes eagerly waiting for them to ripen – Hopefully soon! I’m already working on plans to have earlier tomatoes for next year.  We’re finding potatoe beetles now, but are fortunate that we don’t have a lot of them.   I’ve gone through a couple times and ‘picked’ pretty thoroughly, and  they seem to be sticking to the eggplant which is nice because it makes for a lot less picking.  It always amazed me how much larvae can eat and excrete. You can ask Nicole how much she likes picking larvae out of piles of their own excrement.

Our favorite dog was back for a couple days and I was really worried he wasn’t going to leave this time. His newest annoying habit is to helping me dig carrots.  He digs ferociously at them while seeing how much if his head he can stick into the ground right where I’m trying to put the fork in the ground.  Now I have to worry about hurting the dog with just about every job I’m doing.  I’m learning to yell at him though(for his safety), which is working.

This week at the market

We will have all our regular veggies for sale and there will once again be honey and bread.  The bread sells quickly, so we are still looking for another bread vendor.   For music, on Thursday we will have local Wolseley celebrities Larry Updike and Greg Glatz performing for us.  See you then!
