We’ll have chocies from the following veggies this week (subject to change): Lettuce, spinach, arugula, mizuna, radish, green onion, asparagus,
The arugula is spicy and the mizuna is similar, but nutty and mild. Both are great on salads, pasta, or pizza, sandwiches. Please check out our recipes tab for ideas if there are any vegetables you’re not familiar with.
On the farm this week: It has been hot! My favorite thing about the weather being this hot is that I get to keep telling people ‘man it’s hot”. And I’m looking forward to the first pick up because if anyone ask me how things are on the farm I can say ‘it’s hot.;
But other than this week, this entire spring has been cold! It’s been so cold that our crops aren’t actually ready to harvest! That’s right – we are starting to harvest before our crops are ready to harvest. .. Fortunately we had enough lettuce and spinach still in our tunnels to harvest for Tuesday, and we are counting on the field lettuce and spinach will be ready by Thursday for our second CSa pick up.
Here’s Alyssa, Sandra and Morgan in our small Tunnel harvesting lettuce that was planted between the tomatoes plants for the spring CSA Now that the greens in between are all harvested, the tomatoes will start taking up the rest of the space as they continue to grow. I took the plastic off this Tunnel last week because man was it hot! I also wanted to let it get actual rain this year as much as possible to leach out the salts that build up from the well water. I’ve also been readint that greenhouse grown crops are u.v deficient.

We are harvesting some things from the field also. We harvested the arugual, mizuna and green onions this morning and will be harvesting the radish tomorrow morning because they still need to grow. (We are really cutting it close this year!) Here’s Alyssa, Sandra and Sarah cutting Arugula early this morning. You can tell it’s early bc Sarah is in her winter jacket and I hadn’t had a chance yet to tell her about the heat wave we’re having

There is currently almost no flea beetle holes in the arugiule right now which is amazing, because right now the flea beetles are bad! So our covers have been doing there job. If you want to see how bad the flea beetles are right now: Here is a picture of a plant that was not covered:
If you can tell what plant this is (or was) , you will win a free bunch of arugula:

And finally. I’m very lucky to have everyone back from last year: Sarah, Sandra, Alyssa, Barb, Morgan, Shola are all back. A lot of people know Alyssa and Barb from the Wolseley market and they’ll be doing it again this year. There was also one other person helping at the market last year: Adriian. This year we tricked Adriian to work at at farm and here he is regretting it.

That’s it for this week.
See you soon!
