Farm news, June 22/2026

We’ll have choices from the following veggies this week: Lettuce, asparagus, kale, arugula, mizuna, green onion, dill, cilantro, parsley, bok choi, radish, turnips, potatoes.

This week the asparagus is from river valley farms and the potatoes are from oak valley farms. We have brought them in from those farms because of some losses with our own vegetables this spring. Apparently the key to success this spring is to have the word valley in your name. So, I’m officially changing the farm name to Jonathan Valley farm.

On the farm this week:

It’s officially summer?? This is the nicest fall weather I could ask for — low 20’s all week. I’m always intrigued as to why 20c inside winter is cold enough to need a sweater; whereas 20c in summer is still a too hot even in a t shirt and shorts.

The farm has dried out now! I thought last week we’d only lost one planting of spinach to the hail, but we also lost our second and a bit of the 3rd to the excessive rain. Well, we have 6 more plantings of spinach to go through this summer and nature can’t get them all. Some of the dill turned purple from the water, but it’s starting to come back and guess what ?- we have our second planting of dill almost ready….

Here’s Shola harvesting dill and cilantro.

This week we also planted all our fall cauliflower. Last week was cabbage, this week is cauliflower and the next 2 weeks will be broccoli. Here’s Morgan and Hin planting caulilfower.

And we had our first day for weeding this last Friday and it was needed. I was very relieved when we found that there were carrots in the weeds. For a while I wasn’t sure if we had planted any. Here are the freshly weeded carrots. At the far end of the picture is Morgan planting the cauliflower. Can you tell where?

That’s it for this week

See you soon,

Jonathan, Sarah, Sandra, Morgan, Alyssa, Shola, Adriian, Hin
