Farm News, Sept. 9

In your box this week is a choice from:

lettuce, spinach, eggplant, broccoli, peppers, cucumber, zucchini, corn, tomatoes, leeks, onions, potatoes, carrots, dill, cilantro, basil, parsley, scallions and hot peppers.

On the farm this week:

cleaning onions, cleaning onions and cleaning onions.   The onions are dried now and we’re busy trying to get them all cleaned and bagged for storage so we can make room in the greenhouses for the squashes that we’ll probably start harvesting in the next couple weeks.    We’re still using up the sweet onions, and when those are used up we’ll start on the storage onions.  Sarah said that after picking beans, cleaning onions is her favourite job.  I don’t know if that’s sarcasm?

The flea beetles are starting to retreat and the brassicas are still standing.  Here’s the brussels sprouts plants who’s tops everyone hopefully enjoyed last week.

That is all for now.  See you soon,
Jonathan, Nicole, and Sarah
