On the farm this week

Everyone’s saying the f word today – frost that is.  We’ve been pretty lucky so far to have such warm weather for working int this fall.  It’s time to break out the toque and parka now.   That also means the veggies are going to start tasting sweeter – when it gets cold outside the vegetables start converting starch to sugar which acts as antifreeze.

We also had our farm  tour this weekend.  It was a nice afternoon for it and no bugs and it looked like all the kids had fun.  They all seemed to know how to pick vegetables.  I turned around and the next thing I knew there was a production line of kids harvesting carrots.  One had the fork, the other was pulling them and they were all hauling them out of the field.  I asked where they were going and they had set up a stand on the road and were selling them!

I think we found the worlds largest beet this week.  I’m told it looks just like me.  We’re going to hide it in the beet bin, if you come across it it’s yours for free!
