Farm News, Oct 3/2016

We’ll have the following veggies this week:

Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, kohlrabi, bok choi, carrots, beets, potato, bell peppers, hot peppers, squash, cucumber, beans, brussels sprouts, dill, cilantro, parsley and scallions.

On the farm this week:

Oct 4 and still no frost!  I wonder what will happen if we don’t get any frost this year? The weather has been pretty beautiful and I’m enjoying while it lasts because I know that good things never last.  To still be working in a t shirt and having my boots fit in the morning is pretty awesome.  Usually it’s so cold in the morning that my rubber boots have shrunk 3 sizes so I have to go barefoot until my boots warm up.

For all the crazy kohlrabi fans, kohrlabi is back.  Our fall kohlrabi is the ultimate treat for kohlrabi lover because it’s so big.  The spring kohrlabi we have to harvest small so it doesn’t get too woody.

If anyone is wondering why Sarah is looking 3 years younger it’s because I forgot to take pictures today and so this is from 3 years ago.  We were dressing very different back then.

We also had a tour group of students from Red river culinary arts program come out to the farm on friday.  They had a tour of the farm and then tried out farming for a bit.

Some harvested, potatos while some harvested carrots, and some hauled in squash from the fields.   I don’t think I converted anyone to farming, but these guys hauled many bins of squash and we only have a few squash left in the field to bring in now.
