We’ll have choices from the following veggies this week:
lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, broccolini, cucumber, zucchini, beans, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, dill, cilantro, parsley, basil, green onion,
On the farm this week:
The last killdeer eggs have hatched and there are baby killdeer running around; and now I understand why they always lay their eggs in brown rubble. I know for sure that I have a picture of a baby killdeer in this picture – I saw it clearly in the lens as I snapped the picture. But I can’t find it in the picture anymore. If you can spot the baby killdeer in this picture of our fall broccoli, you will win a free Broccoli. This post originally said you’d win a free fall CSA, but then immediately 2 people found the killdeer so I had to edit it quickly. I was sure no one would find it! Congrats to the winners!

The cucumbers are OUT OF CONTROL. The last few years we have been short on cucumbers and I was reluctant to plant more, because each year I thought our shortage was an anomoly But I decided after a few years of the same thing I can’t call it an anomoly anymore, and this year planted extra cucumbers. Well, this year is an anomoly in that we have way too many cucumbers. We will be giving away extra cucumbers at the pick up for now; so please don’t be shy and really help yourself to as many cucumbers as you think you can take; bc we don’t want to take carry them back to the farm to compost them. Here’s Shola picking cucumbers this morning. Now that the heat wave is over he’s back to wearing his winter jacket. It took a record breaking heat wave for him to take his jacket off, and then it was only for the afternoon.

The beans are out of control this week also. Here’s Adriian and Kateryna picking beans. Kateryna is from Ukraine and has been working for a couple weeks now. We’ve had a few Ukrainians come and help out on the farm in the last month and every one of them works 2x as fast as anyone else despite never having worked on a farm before. They have made Canadians look pretty bad! I’m only hiring Ukrainians from now on.

That’s it for this week.
Thanks and see you soon,
Jonathan, Sarah, Sandra, Alyssa, Morgan, Shola, Barb, Adriian and Kateryna
