We’ll have the following veggies this week:
lettuce, chard, kale, eggplant, peppers, beans, carrots, beets, radish, turnip, onions, broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi, cucumbers, zucchini, basil, parsley, dil, hot peppers.
This is the last week for peas and it’s going to be a choice between peas and beans. The hot peppers are hot wax peppers(not hot), cayenne(hot), jalapeno(kind of hot) and thai chiles(hot)
On the farm this week:
It was another hot week and we running the water pretty continuosly and starting to fight over the water. I’ll be trying to water the veggies, meanwhile Sarah’s turning off my water because she has no pressure to wash veggies and then Lance is turning off Sarah’s water because he’s trying to water the trees we planted, and then I’m turning off Lance’s water so I can water veggies and then Sarah’s turning off my water and it just goes on like that all day. The Killdeer has finally left the cabbage. I hope it found a more suitable home, but then this week I found this hiding the carrots! What’s with birds nests in the garden this year? I thought it might be a killdeer again, but they’re smaller than the other eggs, and there’s no mom around to yell at us whenever we get near them. Whoever knows what they are gets a free bunch of carrots and I have no idea if you’re right..
And it’s onion time now! We’re staring with our sweet onions that are almost as big as Renae’s eyballs. I think I say this everyear, but sweet onions chopped up with cucumbers in some vinegar is one of the best way to eat raw onions in my opinion
Renae’s sad that this is the last week of picking peas. She’s the only person I’ve met who’s favorite job is picking peas. Hopefully she likes picking beans as much as picking peas. Here’s Lance and Irina doing the first bean picking.
And I finally got a mower for the tractor! I seeded this field to grass and clover this spring for a green manure. The plan is to enrich the soil with this green manure crop and then plant it in the future to vegetables. But you can see how tall the weeds are! I spent last year trying to get rid of the weeds in this field so when I seeded it to green manure this wouldn’t happen, but it happened. I should have mowed these weeds a long time ago before they all started going to see….oh well at least I think I killed off most of the quack grass.
And finally I remembered to take a picture of Amelia. She’s only here one day a week and I usually only think to take pictures Monday, so that’s my excuse. But here she is weeding the carrots with everyone.
