On the farm this week
Our drought came to a violent end this past Thursday evening. After leaving the market in Wolseley where it had been sunny and beautiful, I returned a farm ravaged by hail for the second time this month! And that’s actually the second time I’ve ever gotten hail in the last 13 years. Again, the damage was not bad except for the lettuce, spinach and chard got pretty ripped up. The universe really does not want us eating chard this year!
But the next day there was this incredible rainbow that came right over and across the farm. And it wasn’t just a rainbow, it was actually a doorway to a different world, because when we went through it we all started levitating! Here’s Alyssa, Tessa and Morgan floating by the washstation to go harvest more beans.
And our fall broccoli is ready this week, which is one week earlier than I had planned to have it. Every year the fall broccoli is either a week earlier or later than when I want it, but never the week I plan to have it! I think this year it’s because we did a good job of protecting it from damage from the cabbage moths – which were out much later than usual also. I think for the most part there has been no worms in anyones broccoli this year? But if I’m wrong please let me know because you will get a prize.
Finally: fall is coming, and that means winter is coming. And so our winter CSA sign ups are now open: If you’re interested in signing up for the winter CSA you can do so here:
That’s it for this week. See you soon!
