Farm news, Sep 09/2024

We’ll have choices from the following veggies this week:

Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, carrots, beets, onion, potato, salad turnips, peppers, melons, broccoli, tomato, leeks, beans, cucumber, zucchini, basil, cilantro, dill, parsley, green onions.

On the farm this week:

So much happened this week.

First, we dug up all our potato for winter CSA. There was a lot of lifting and stacking bags of Potatos, so if Alyssa and I are hunched over at the Wolseley pick up tomorrow, we don’t mean to be rude, but we cant’ straighten our backs. The next big crop to harvest is all our fall carrots. Here’s Sandra standing in a field that a week ago was full of potato

The the flea beetles have finally come out (they’re like 2 months late at this point) I was excited to have salad turnips this week, and then I went to the bathroom and when I came back the flea beetles were all over the turnips! I knew I should have just held it in until lunch. We’ll still have salad turnips, but if you’re wondering why the bunches have no tops – everyone agreed that you would rather not know what the tops looked like. Here’s a bunch of turnips without the tops

And finally our last planting of lettuce is just about ready to harvest. so we should have lettuce back now for the season.

That’s it for this week. Thanks and see you soon! Jonathan, Sarah, Sandra, Morgan, Tessa, Alyssa, Leslie and Barb.
