Farm news, Sept 29

We’ll have the following veggies this week:

lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, peppers, brussels sprouts, squash, potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, dill, parsley, cilantro and scallions

On The farm this week:

We finally had some nice weather this week and things are really growing fast.  The flea beetles and moths are really not bad this fall and I’m very happy about that.  As a result the fall broccoli seems to be really enjoying itself and is looking good. The end of the year must be coming as we’re now starting to harvest on our final plantings of lettuce and spinach (which is doing really well right now. This picture is 2 weeks old I think – it’s much bigger right now).

With the super warm weather we had last week it was looking like I’d get to experience happiness after all this year, but then suddenly the mosquitos came out in mass and ruined it!  So, I guess 2 hours of happiness will be it for this summer.  Someone told me at the last pick up that I can still be happy even when the weather’s not perfect.  Hearing that made me really unhappy.  It makes me happy to be unhappy, and now that my reasons for being unhappy have been taken away I will never be happy!

I missed last weeks newsletter (sorry – I was sleeping instead of writing).  Last week the prodigal employee Caitlin returned and invented a great game for passing the time while harvesting leeks:  see who can count to the highest number out loud.  I made it to 27 and was sure I had the record, but then Caitlin blew me away by going to 67.  She is currently undefeated and as I don’t like losing, I’ll offer 5 lbs of potatoes to whoever counts out loud to 68.

That’s it for this week.  See you soon!
