Farm news, Oct 4/2017

We’ll have the following veggies this week:

Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, potatoes, carrots, beets,  onions, eggplant, peppers, leeks, squash, dill, cilantro, parsley and hot peppers

On the farm this week:

I guess mother nature had had enough of my talk about how we’ll never get rained on gave us some rain last Tuesday at the market.  So now I’m certain we’ll only get rained on every few years and have put the canopies away for the year because lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice, right?

The oats and peas are getting tall now enough to hide in now, which is really scary because we’ve got grass sharks now that can creep along unnoticed until it’s too late.  One actually almost got Jaroslav today, but he managed to get away.  If you can spot Jaroslav in the picture you win a free lb of potatoes!

It’s another rainy day and it’s starting to look like fall, but still doesn’t really feel like it.  I’ve not had to wear my parka or gloves yet this year, which is unusual for this time of year.  Usually picking wet things in the morning is a pretty cold thing by this time of year.  I’m pretty sure I’m not even going to need my parka and gloves,  so I’m just going to get rid of them!

Fall is brassica season.  Most of what’s left standing in the field are broccoli and brussel sprout and leafy greens and the broccoli.

That’s it for this week,

See you soon!
