Farm news, July 14

We will have the following veggies this week:

Carrots, beets, broccoli, zucchini, scallions, dill, parsley, cilantro, basil, peas, turnips, kohlrabi, chard, kale, beet greens and garlic scapes

On the Farm this week:

Once again, it rained all weekend! Although, I’m not complaining this time because it gave me a good excuse to watch the world cup.  We didn’t get a lot of rain, and the ground is now starting to dry out (I think for the first time this summer).  So we’ve been on a planting spree.  Yesterday we finished planting the fall broccoli among other things.  Planting in the picture below is Breanne – a born and raised real farmer.  For the first time, there is an actual farmer on the farm!

Also, this week I’ve had help from Alex, a tough Teulon high school student who is the only one not complaining about the mosquitos.  I probably complain about the mosquitos every year, but this year they really are ridiculous  – (and I don’t use that word often).  No one has tried yet rubbing basil or citrus on them, but everyone is jealous of my outfit which I will never again take off.    The only thing bad about this suit is when a mosquito gets in side and I have to slap it on my face – and it turns out mosquitos are very good at dodging face slaps.

As you can probably see, the next thing to catch up on is weeding.  The weeds are a bit ridiculous ( and I really don’t use that word often)  So, this Sat at noon is weedfest and everyone is invited!  It’s going to be like folk fest, except, instead of music there’s going to be weeds.  And instead of an actual chef making food, I’ll make a big salad for anyone who shows up.  R.S.V.P!

That’s it for this week,

See you soon,

Jonathan, Nicole, and hopefully I can convince Breane and Alex to stick around also.
