Farm news June 27

We will have the following veggies this week:

lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, radish, turnips, beets, broccoli, bok choi, green onion, dill, cilantro, parsley, arugula mizuna, pea shoots.

On the farm this week

I should have probably mentioned this several years ago, but it’s slipped my mind until now:  we wash all the vegetables.  From time to time I hear from people who go home and wash their lettuce etc and then remark how clean it seems to be when they wash it and surprised to know it’s already been washed.

Here’s our fancy salad spinner.  We just put it on spin for a few minutes while we wash more greens.   Also, if happen to find a sock in you salad I’ve been looking all over for it!

Here’s our lettuce cut early in the morning.   Check out the perfect hunched over posture.  It hurst my back to just watch.

It rained again, and it’s making getting to the field pretty tricky.  I have some grave down where it’s wettest, but not far enough to get up to the field.  So we have to start on the gravel and get enough speed by the time we hit the mud to make up the field.  There’s usually some pretty wild fish tails and lots of mud flying and engines revving, but we make it each time.   It’s also pretty fun to hit the accelator when people are behind the truck and splatter them with mud.  But, I’m really looking forward to the road drying up one of these days!

That’s it for this week,

See you at the market.
