On the farm this week
I was really hoping everything would dry out so that this week we could have an easier time digging up carrots and potatos. Sunday evening when I checked on everything it was looking promising; but then I woke up on Monday and looked out my window and saw this:

I checked the rain gauage and we got another 2.5″ last night! So it’s going to be another week of harvesting mud and then trying to find vegetables in it. Here’s Morgan and Alyssa – who are actually standing up – and sank in to their waists.

Our summer broccoli is now done and it will be around mid september that our fall broccoli is ready. We finally got around to covering our fall broccoli and it turns out it was just in time because the second generation of flea beetles has hatched! Here’s our fall broccoli patch that Shola carried hundres of sandbags into becuase it was too wet to drive.

We use the sandbags to hold down the cover over the broccoli. And here’s what it looks like under every sand bag on the farm: Apparently earthworms just love getting crushed into pancakes! I don’t know why.

That’s it for this week.
See you soon,
Jonathan, Sarah, Sandra, Morgan, Alyssa, Shola, Barb
