We’ll have the following veggies this week:

lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, carrots, beets, onions, zucchini, cucumber, broccoli, cabbage, beans, tomato, peppers, dill, cilantro, parsley, basil, green onions

On the farm this week:

It rained and it was awesome! It started raining just as we were finishing the harvest on Thursday morning and then stopped just when we finished setting up at the market. Then friday after work it rained again and dried up just enough by Monday to make work not horrible. I am a little bit bummed now however, because this means I’ll have to mow my lawn again and it was pretty nice not having to mow my lawn all summer….

Kelsey got our brassicas covered up just in time, because the flea beetles are crazy now! Any broccoli that wasnt’ covered has been pretty decimated. We haven’t uncovered the kale yet, but hopefully it will still be ok when we go to harvest it tomorrow morning!

Also, it’s basically winter now. The days are dark and cold in the morning ! (which is actually pretty nice). So because it’s winter, we’re starting harvests for winter storage. Currently we’re working on pulling out all the onions and garlic. For this job we have extra help from the Lemoine brothers(Justin and Tristan). When I saw them pick up a bin of onions for the first time I forgot where I was and thought I was watching the ballet. I said ‘ how the heck do you make picking up something look that good?!” It turns out they’ve been weightlifing for 10 years and their technique is incredible! If you don’t think picking up a box of onions can be art, you haven’t seen these guys pick up a box of onions. I know who I’m calling when we harvest all the squash.

Finally – another artist, and local resident, Ariel Gordon will be having a launch of her latest book, ‘the pandemic papers’, this Thursday on the grounds of Laura Secord school beside the Wolseley Market. The details are here and also there will be bingo!:
