We’ll have choices from the following veggies this week:
Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, brussel sprouts, squash, tomato, peppers, beans, potato, carrots, beets, onion, cilantro, parsley
On the farm this week:
We still have not had frost yet this summer, but it looks like that’s about to change and it’s about time! I’ve been waiting and waiting for an excuse to stop picking beans and it looks like I only have to wait two more days. We’ve had really warm weather all fall; so I’m not sure I’m ready for the cold! Today was especially challenging because we were harvesting in a hurricane! Here’s Morgan in full winter gear now holding up a winter radish where the wind ripped the covers right off of them. At least we won’t. have to uncover these now.
We got our garlic planted last week while it was still nice. Here’s Morgan and Sandra planting garlic. If it looks like they’re planting into grass – that’s because they are. My goal all year is to keep as much soil covered with living plants for as much time as possible in order to feed and shelter the soil biology. So this year instead of tiling the the cover crop of oats before planting garlic, I tried mowing it and we planted straight into it. And it wasn’t a disaster!
This is also the last week (18th week) of our 18 week summer CSA. For the next 3 weeks we have pick ups once a week for the fall CSA and then it’s winter. Thank you everyone who signed up for the summer CSA and I really hope you enjoyed it.
