Farm News, Aug 11

We’ll have choices from the following veggies this week:

lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, cabbage, potato, carrots, onion, beets, corn, cucumber, zucchini, tomato.

On the farm this week

I finally got my wish, except I wish I didn’t! We got 2.5″ of the rain we missed all summer over the last few days and that was just in time to make digging up the potatos in clay soil a ridiculous thing to do. But at least the potatos survived the potato beetles. Here’s Sandra and Shola picking up potatos.

We also will have some corn this week. I stopped growing corn a long time ago because it always had so many worms. The last few years, a friend has been gardening in my yard and never has any worms in her corn. So I decided to try growing a small amount of corn this year and guess what – I have worms! But, there are not that many from the ears I’ve checked. I will also be buying corn from another farmer because the amount I grew will not be enough for everyone. Here’s a our little corn patch with some sunfloweres mixed in.

The best part about this week is that, by the end of the week we will be done planting for the year! We have been planting every week since March (if you count the tunnels) and not having to worry about keeping things a live will be a nice break! Here we have planted our last lettuce in the same spot that we just harvested the garlic.

Finally, now that the garlic is harvested, we are starting to take orders for the bulk garlic which will be ready in September as well as tomatos as well as the fall and winter CSA. If you are interested in any of those things please use the forms on the homepage to order

Thanks and see you soon!

Jonathan, Sarah, Sandra, Alyssa, Morgan, Shola, and Barb
