We’ll have choices from the following veggies for CSA this week: Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, argula, mizuna, bok choi, radish, turnip, carrots, beets, green onion, dill, cilantro, parsley, basil
On the farm this week
We had a nice big rain which was very welcome and everything looks like it grew a bunch this week. Just to make you upset, here’s a picture of our peas, which are almost ready, but not quite in time for this week.

One new vegetable this week is carrots. I would like to pretend we grew them this year, but Barb and Alyssa always end up telling people the truth at the pick up anway. So they are our storage carrots from last year; but people don’t believe me when I tell them that either bc they are so crisp and flavorful. So no matter what people think I’m lying.
The only problem with storing them that long is they take forever to clean. Here’s Sarah who literally washes all the veggies that come out of our farm everyday! For those customers who have been customers for the last 15 years – Sarah has been washing your vegetables for 15 years now! In the last 3 weeks alone she has washed almost 1500 lb of lettuce mix; so in you could say she’s washed a lot of veggies over the years.

We also mowed all our rye and vetch cover crop this week. I feel like every year I do little bit better job of keeping something growing on the soil at all times and this year pretty much the entire farm was seeded to rye and vetch last fall and as we plant we mow and till in the cover crop. Now the crop is almost mature and is quite tall and my goal it to just kill it by mowing and to plant into it without tilling. This is Alyssa mowing the cover crop and we’ll be planting our fall broccoli into it soon.

Here also is a picture of when we planted zucchini into it a few weeks ago:

The experiment that is going least well is the potatoes. In one of those stands of rye is a row of potatoes that was never seen or heard from again.
Well, that’s it for this week. See you soon!
