Farm news, sept 26 2016

We’ll have the following veggies this week:

Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, bok choi, celery, leeks, bell peppers,  brussel sprouts, squash, carrots, beets, onions, potatos, dil, cilantro, parsley, hot peppers and scallions.

On the farm this week:

Still no frost, what’s up with that?  The day there was supposed to be frost there was frost on my roof for a few hours, but none in the garden.  And then last Thursday when the temperature was plus 6 there was a glazing of ice on all the lettuce and we were held up for an hour until it melted.  How is it that ice forms at 6 degrees and not at 0?

It’s brussel sprouts time!  Brussel sprouts are the first thing he garden and the last thing out.  We’ve been watching them grow for 5 months, so  now it’s time to start eating them!

We’ve been really lucky with how warm this weather has been, but today was another parka day especially with the wind.  I was disappointed that no one showed up last week wearing a parka – some people were even wearing shorts just to spite me!  I’m trying to get into the winter spirit, so now I’m offering 10 lbs of carrots to anyone that shows up wearing a parka this week!

That’s it for this week

See you soon!
