We’ll have choices from the following veggies this week: Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, cabbage, peppers, watermelon, cucumber, zucchini, tomato, beans, potato, carrots, onions, beets, dill, parsley, basil and green onions
On the farm this week:
We have finished all our field planting for the year! On friday we finished off our last planting of lettuce and spinach in the field. Unfortunately however; we also seeded a bunch of lettuce in the nursery that we will plant out into the high tunnel in a few weeks. So we are not done planting for the year yet! I don’t know what we are going to do with all our free time now that we are done planting. It’s time to start watching more t.v.
We’ve got 2 new crops this week, : Watermelon and peppers Most people think of watermelon as a nice summer treat to eat on a hot day. However our watermelons and canteloupe usually ripen in the fall. So I think we really should be thinking of it as a treat for a cold day and start getting into baked melons.

This is the time of year when the harvest starts to get heavy and I find I spend a lot of time just staring at bins hoping somehow I won’t have to pick them up. Here’s Sandra filling bins with melons that we’ll make Adriian pick up. It’s Adriians last week; so we are going to get the most out of him this week!
Our peppers starting to ripen this week also. We start picking peppers once they start to change colour but aren’t yet completely ripe. Peppers, just like tomatos, will continue to ripen once picked, so you can just leave them for a few days to ripen if you prefer them that way.
Here’s Sarah and Alyssa bent over at 90 degrees going up and down the pepper rows. I’m just realizing this will be a good job for Adriian!

The fruit thats ripening the slowest right now is our tomatoes. It’s seems like all of August has been overcast; so if we get some sunny days that will help.
That’s it for this week.
Thanks and see you soon!
