We’ll have the following veggies this week:

Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, broccolini, kohlrabi, beets, zucchini, carrots, peas, dill, cilantro, parsley, green onion and garlic scapes

On the farm this week:

This week awe re are experiencing lots of heat and lots of mosquitos. The mosquitos are so bad in the morning right now that everyone is eagerly waiting for the sun to come out, but then when the sun comes out the sun comes out and we’re stuck trying to decide which is worse- mosquitos or heat? The mosquitos and the heat are just in time for folk fest. So all you going to folk fest = enjoy! And just in case you were wondering – yes we are also still getting lots of rain and I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to rain for folk fest also.

We’re harvesting our garlic scapes this week and the garlic looks like it’s doing pretty well this year. The garlic scapes are great for pesto or in a dish like you’d use garlic any other way. They are also great pickled. Here’s a picture of our garlic patch.

Sandra also took a picture of this guy who’s made his home in the beets. He’s burrowd a hole in the beet patch and all around his hole there are many beets with bite marks on it. I see these animals all the time, but this is the first time we’ve found their hidey hole.

We also tried a new kind of zucchini – the ‘kousa’ kind. It is rounder and very commonly used for stuffing and baking. Here’s Sarah holing up a cousa zucchini in her right arm.

And we’re in to week 2 of peas. Good old Lucas and Leslie have picked peas for one week straight and is starting his second week of picking peas. He is a maching.
