We’ll have the following veggies this week:
lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, Broccoli, broccolini, sugar snap peas, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, dill, cilantro, parsley, basil, green onions
The peas are sugar snap peas – so you don’t need to shell them.
On the farm this week:
Guess what happened this week?? It rained some more. It may sound like I’m complaining, but I’m actually enjoying this spring. I haven’t had to water the garden yet and the cool weather has been very nice to work in. And weirdly – there’s no mosquitos which I don’t understand. I would expect it to be hell out there right now.
The cool weather is also good for peas which we started picking this week and we’ve hired a new young lad named Lucas just for the occasion. Lucas and Leslie spent 8 hours picking peas in the rain on Friday. I asked them if they enjoyed their day and they both said no. They also spent the whole day picking peas in the rain today. They’ve now finished picking through all the peas, buut fortunately, the peas at the beginning are ready to pick again so tomorrow they will start again from the beginning! I don’t ask them how their doing anymore.
Another coold weather crop that is ready this week is Broccoli. Here’s Morgan who’s become our designated broccolini harvester holding up some Broccoli.
This spring has been about the opposite of Last spring which was very hot and dry. Last summer our zukini and cucumbers were ready pretty early, but our peas were a failure. This spring our cucumbers are really taking their time. Here’s Tessa and Sandra picking spinach (in the rain of course). To the right is our cucumber and zucchini. And looking at the cucumbers slow growth I got nervous and decied we needed more cucumber so we planted some right in the middle of the spinach bc it was the only place we had left. So hopefully you don’t end up with cucumber leaves in your spinach.
