In your csa pick this week will be a selection from:
lettuce, spinach, celery, cucumber, eggplant, potato, onion, carrot, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, peppers, dill, parsley, cilantro, basil, scallions and winter squash.
On the farm this week:
It’s officially fall now and it’s starting to feel like it. Just one week ago all the leaves on the trees were green and now they’re mostly brown. Amazingly though, there’s no frost in the forecast. I’m hoping we get some soon because it will make the veggies taste so much sweeter.
We’re starting on the winter squash this week – since our frost last week killed off the leaves they’re much easier to find!
Last year there were numerous requests for pumpkins and also a couple for blue hubbard squash. So we planted those, and for some reason there seems to be a high proportion of pumpkins, so all you pumpkin eaters better get ready. The blue hubbard is apparently broken open very easily – all you need to do is put it in a garbage bag and throw it off the 10th story of your house and voila. I’ve heard that it makes a great soup and pie as well. The other squashes will be butternut, acorn, and spaghetti squash.
That’s it for this week.
See you soon,
Jonathan, Nicole, Sarah.
