We;ll have choices from the following veggies this week for CSA:
lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, squash, leeks, peppers, celery, potato, onion, carrot, beets, dill, cilantro, parsley, hot peppers.
On the farm this week:
It’s our 18th week/last week of our summer CSA! As we get later into fall and the days get darker, the weather gets hotter and hotter! The heat is speeding up the growth of the fall broccoli and caulifower and I expect there to be a fair amount harvested over the next couple weeks. Our peppers which happened to survive the frost seem to be enjoying the heat and I think this has been our best year yet for bell peppers, as the last 2 weeks I think we have picked exclusively ripe peppers. Here’s Sarah rinsing off and packing the peppers.

Now that summer is coming to and end, our focus is to harvest all the winter CSA vegetables when we’re not harvesting for the summer CSA. We have now brought in all the squash into our nursery and as soon as it dries out a bit more we’ll be harvesting all the remaining potatos and carrots as fast as we can before it has a chance to rain again. Here’s all our squash in the nursery and once it gets cold enough to freeze in here we’ll move them into a cooler with the onions.

And last week we finished planting the high tunnel so planting is officially over! But believe it or not – we’re still weeding. There is 1 weed on the farm that really ruins my day whenever I see it: that is sow thistles. The problem is that all summer long they are everywhere I look; so basically I have not had a good since they started sprouting! Their roots do not come out without digging them, and they produce a lot of seed faster then we can ever seem to remove them; so controlling them has started to feel futile. Nonetheless, we are taking one last tour of the farm taking as many as we can because If I go down I’m taking as many of them down with me as I can! Heres’ Sandra and Alyssa weeding the winter beets.

Other than that, I really hope everyone has enjoyed the CSA this summer and I’d like to thank you for signing up. The fall CSA will run for the next 3 Tuesdays for everyone that signed up for that and we will still be doing the Wolseley market every Tuesday and Thursday from 3 – 6:30 pm.
Thanks and see you soon!
