Farm News, July 23/2024

We’ll have choices from the following veggies this week:

Lettuce, chard, kale, broccoli, broccolini, cabbage, celery, cucumber, zucchini, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, beans, tomato, sweet onion, dill, cilantro, parsley, basil, scallions

The theme of this week has been pain and misery (i.e humidity and mosquitos, i.e folk fest but quieter). We had a new girl Jesse start this week and I overheard Morgan telling her, ‘basically all the jobs on this farm are just varying forms of misery’! Here’s Morgan and Sandra in the carrots this morning in full rain gear which is the usual attire now because even if it’s not raining, it’s worth it for the the mosquitos. I also apolgize that we have a lot of broken carrots this week – getting them out of wet clay in one piece has been very challenging!

Another task that takes some serious mosquito tolerance is mowing the cover crop in the pathways, but Sandra doesn’t even care! Here she is in a tshirt weed wacking spots the mower couldn’t fit into. This is the third week of mowing the cover crop and it is still way too much work.

And we have now started beens this week. Last week was the week off of picking peas, and now it’s on to beans for pretty much the rest of the summer. Here’s Lelsie who picked beans solo all day today!

That’s it for this week.

See you soon,!
