Farm news July 21/2025

We’ll have choices from the following veggies for CSA this week: Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, carrots, sweet onion, beets, cucumber, zucchinni, tomato, beans, broccoli, broccolini, cabbage, dill, cilantro, parsley, basil, scallions,

On the farm this week:

We had our week off of picking peas last week, but this week and until the end of summer it’s time for picking beans. Here’s Sandra pretending to be happy about that.

We’ll also start having everyone favourite red fruit this week. No, not strawberries, tomatoe! We have tomatoes planted in 3 different places this year: 1) A heated tunnel (for the greenhouse tomato subsribers), 2) an unheated tunnel (to try to get some a little earlier than from the field for the remainder of the season). and 3) in the field. We haven’t had tomatoes in the field for a few years, but people have been wanting bulk make bulk tomatoes the last couple years and we didn’t have enough; so hopefully we’ll have enough this year. And actually the field tomatoes are ripending faster than our tunnel ones which doesn’t make any sense to me at all. Why did we do all that extra work to grow earlier tomatos then?

And the war with the potato beetles is ongoing. We are not winning, but we’re not losing either. Here’s our potatoes which are for the most part growing as fast as they are getting eaten.

That’s it for this week. See you soon!
