We’ll have the following veggies this week:
Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, broccoli, kohlrabi, carrots, beets, radish, turnips, zucchini, sugar snap peas, scallions, dill, cilantro, parsley, basil .
On the farm this week:
Planting is starting to wind down. I did our last seeding of carrots and beets and we planted a whole bunch of broccoli and we’ll do a whole bunch more this week. After this weeks done the only thing we’ll have keep planting is lettuce and spinach. Now that we planted all that I kind of want it to rain, but the road is just starting to be dry and I’m dreading working outside all day in the rain, so I really don’t want it to rain. I guess I’ll be unhappy either way!
We’ve got our final worker for the summer – farmer in residence Lance. So far I’m not quite sure he’s a real person. He weeded a total of 24 hours this weekend and got up at 5 to go for a run before the day started. During the week we start at 6, so today he got up at 430 to get his run in and still worked 11 hours today and after dinner has challenged me to workout with him (oh it’s on). He says he has so much energy because he eats almost nothing but 30 bananas a day and some figs and water. I’m pretty sure he’s going to slow down, but if he doesn’t I’m definitely going to start eating a lot of bananas.
This was the same field of carrots and beets lance is standing in the day before he weeded it:
We had a total of 3 volunteers last Thursday(a new volunteer Robert and Julia’s still here)! I’m thinking of starting to charge people to volunteer soon, so you should really come volunteer soon while it’s free! There’s such a mix of people here right now tried having an international potluck lunch and had some really great food.
That’s it for this week.
See you soon,
Jonathan, Nicole, Shenggang, Irina, Lance and Julia.
