Jonathan’s Farm grows fresh vegetables for 300 CSA members, the Wolseley Farmers Market and the selkirk Farmers Market. We are committed to ecological farming practices and all our vegetables are grown naturally: no pesticides or herbicides prohibited by organic standards are used. Jonathan’s Farm has been in operation since 2010 and employs 4 people during the growing season.
I began farming in 2008 with the goal of providing Winnipegers with nutritious and locally grown food while minimizing the environmental impact of farming. In 2009 I interned on a biodynamic farm in Ontario where I toured many organic farms and learned about different organic growing methods. In 2010 I started my own farm (the name gives it away). My first year I worked alone, but things have grown since then and there are now 4 of us working on the farm in the summer.
I have enjoyed the last few summers working in nature on projects aimed at bringing about greater harmony with each other and our environment. I am super excited to be spending the summer watching plants grow, being outdoors in the elements, sharing tasty food with Winnipegers, getting a serious physical workout and tan, living and growing a vision of creative sustainability with others and consciously creating the kind of world I’d like to live in.
