Farm news, Sept 7

We will have the following veggies this week:

lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, corn, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumber, zucchini, carrots, beets, onions, potatoes, hot peppers, parsley, cilantro.

On the farm this week:

We’ve got a road now to the washstation!  (I know everyone who picks up their share at the farm is thinking: ‘it’s about time!’.   Now we’re actually able to drive to the vegetables to the wash station without getting stuck in a mud pit.   By thursday it had finally dried enough to get in with a load of gravel and we got it in just in time for our 2″ of rain in 20 seconds – That was a downpour!  The road could be longer though as it’s still pretty mucky where the gravel ends, but I found that if we can get to 120km/hr by the end of the gravel we can slide through the muck without getting stuck.

We also got the potato’s dug just in time before the rain friday, and the yield is really good now, so we plan to be bringing potatoes every week now.  There’s a prize for whoever gets the biggest potato.    The st. Boniface hospital also came out this week to take pictures of health researchers in our potato patch. I think it was something about potato’s being good for you.  As soon as I heard that I ate as many potato chips as I could!  I’m told we might see our potato fields on billboards or buses.

Finally, this Tuesday is the Wolseley farmers market party.  I don’t know everything that’s planned for it, but I’ll be filling in for the musician

That’s it for this week.
